My quest for the best burger in the City of Pittsburgh took me to James Street Gastropub...

James Street Gastropub and Speakeasy is an awesome little local pub in the Deutschtown area of the North Side of Pittsburgh. This local spot has a very comfortable relaxed feel, and really epitomizes the idea of a pub – a public house for the community to gather, drink, eat and be merry. I was also very impressed with the design and layout of the restaurant, especially the raised booth seating above the level of the bar. The seating is designed so that you can enjoy the atmosphere of the bar without staring into the back of whomever happens to be seated at the bar. Also the bar has two nice sized TV’s which were perfect for watching college football on this particular Saturday afternoon.

I really like the way this burger was presented. The blue cheese and bacon looked great on the burger, and once it was placed in front of me, I was super excited to bite into it. I was not disappointed. This burger carried a ton of flavor. The blue cheese was strong and delicious. The Bacon added the perfect crispy texture to each bite. The bun was firm enough to hold the burger, but not tough or dried out. Everything played very well together. The meat was a little tough, and I have to think that this burger would improve with a higher quality beef. Also, no great flavor was conveyed through the meat, and I wonder if the chef took the time to season and prepare this ground beef before he made it into burgers. Either way, this burger was delicious, and the crispy home made chips on the side were a real treat. I look forward to returning to James Street, hopefully next time I can catch some live jazz.
