My quest for the best burger in the City of Pittsburgh took me to Meat and Potatoes... Meat and Potatoes is a Gastropub that has embraced the casual dining revolution of our generation. I love this restaurant’s modern yet casual design, welcoming and friendly atmosphere, and their focus on providing highest quality food. Every experience I have had at Meat and Potatoes has far exceeded my expectations walking in; and because my expectations rise with each increasingly enjoyable experience, the bar has been raised, and met, at a pretty high level. The only drawback is the constant business of the pub. I made my brunch reservation for this particular Sunday morning more than a week in advance, and we still got the last available reservation. Unfortunately if you are walking around Pittsburgh, strolling into Meat and Potatoes on the spur of the moment is practically impossible without accepting an inevitable two-hour wait. But the wait is well worth it, and your patients will be rewarded time and time again. |
The brunch menu has a myriad of irresistible comfort foods, from horseradish Eggs-Benedict over short rib hash to fried chicken served over jalapeño waffles; but this Sunday morning I was out Burgering, and a-burgering I did go. The Pub Burger is served with Pastrami belly, horseradish cheddar, and a fried farm egg on top. Additionally it comes with a boatload of perfectly seasoned, extra crispy, thin cut fries. Despite my concerns, the bun, toasted to perfection, held up very well against the egg. At no point did the bun not become soggy or undesirable. The beef was exploding with flavor, and the fact that my burger was overcooked did not detract at all from the overall experience. This is absolutely one of the best burgers I have had in the Burgh, but priced at $14 this is a delicacy reserved only for special occasions. |
