My quest for the best burger in the City of Pittsburgh took me to Shady Grove... Shady Grove is a casual Shadyside bar with an awesome burger option. The young 20 something crowd, mostly college students from nearby Carnegie Mellon and University of Pittsburgh, embraces the laid back atmosphere at Shady Grove. In addition to its delicious burger offering, for the more frugal Pittsburgh foodies, Shady Grove provides pretty solid daily specials ranging from Tacos to Libations. The beer selection was nothing much to speak of, but this New Years Day, which happened to be a Tuesday, offered 2 dollar Mexican beers, including my personal favorite, Modello. Despite its limited table seating, Shady Grove is a great place to watch the Steelers, Buccos, or Penguins game- whichever tickles your fancy – due to the several well-placed televisions. After tasting the food, it didn’t surprise me that this bar was packed at 2:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday, because Shady Grove has not only a delicious menu, but also a solid value. |
| My burger was served with a deliciously unique flavor, crispy (nearly well done) on the outside, and medium rare (exactly as ordered) on the inside. Consequently this burger had a unique crunchy texture, a delicious char grilled flavor, and an outstanding juicy beef quality. I don’t know if it was by the chief’s intention or merely coincidence, but this unique mix created an unbelievably delicious contrast. In addition to the beef itself, the overall flavor, including the bacon and onion ring, carried very well from beginning to end. The fries were thick, crispy, and delicious, but very greasy. Overall this was a great burger experience, and Shady Grove is a spot that I look forward to hanging out in again. |  |
