My quest for the best burger in the City of Pittsburgh took me to Stack’d.

Stack’d is a brand new burger shop in Shadyside. Downstairs Stack’d is a casual and comfortable dinning area, while upstairs is a large bar outfitted with plenty of televisions and bar games. Friday evening, stacked was filled to the brim with 20 something’s taking advantage of great food and drink at great prices. Variety is on the menu at Stack’d, from building custom burgers to an awesome beer selection, Stack’d will satisfy your cravings.

Stack’d’s pencil and paper ordering system allows for the opportunity to mull over every option time and time again. I appreciate being able to take the time out to consider different toppings combinations and add-ons. In addition to burgers and toppings, Stack’d has a pretty wide selection of wings and other appetizers. My two biggest self selecting regrets from the evening were ordering the chicken tenders (as opposed to traditional bone-in wings) and ordering the straight fries (as opposed to the curly fries).

I ordered my custom Stack’d burger with half a pound of beef, topped with grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapeños, covered with spicy pepper jack cheese, and dripping with an amazing Stack’d house sauce, all on a sesame seed bun. The Stack’d House sauce was absolutely delicious, and the highlight of my burger. Tangy and Spicy, the house sauce has kick and bite in all of the right places. The onions and mushrooms were grilled to perfection, providing contrasting flavors and textures. The bun, however, did nothing to add to the experience, and mine was just a tad stale. If I were offering a custom burger menu, I would include the option of spraying a gentle coating of olive oil on the bun then throwing it on grill for a few seconds. I know its some extra work, but if you want to make a great burger, then it is probably worth it. Also I take issue with the quality of the beef that is being served at Stack’d. I understand that this restaurant is brand new, and giving them the benefit of the doubt, I will say that they are still trying to nail down the correct vendors, but again, if burgers are your business, then you should try to put forward a good quality burger. I am sure you can tell from my tone, the patties were a bit greasy.
