OTB Bicycle Cafe

My quest for the best burger in the City of Pittsburgh took me to O.T.B Bicycle Café…

OTB is a fun bicycle themed bar on Carson Street that serves excellent hamburgers. Their menu has a lot of variety, and is extremely creative. As a matter of fact, they even offer a few burgers that feature peanut butter, but because I cannot imagine any situation in which peanut butter and ground beef go well together, I passed on the PB and ordered a more traditional burger. One caveat I have to mention is that this place was drastically under staffed. There was one waitress/bartender, and one cook. Maybe they weren’t expecting a large crowd, but hungry Pittsburgh lunch seekers filled the establishment, and there were at least 50 people seeking service at any given time I was there. Luckily for us we arrived about 10 minutes before the crowd busted in, but I am pretty sure those that arrived after us were waiting upwards of an hour for their burger.

The burger had great texture. The bacon was super crispy, the cheese was melted perfectly, the beef was not ground too finely, and the whole experience was extremely positive for me. The bun, however, was not fresh; I think it may have been at the end of it’s limit, bordering on stale. I don’t know why so many great burgers are served on such terrible buns. It seems elementary that such a large portion of your meal be presented and served well, but OTB disregards, and just serves whatever comes in the giant plastic bag filled with bread spheres. I had the Urban Velo, which is served with hot sauce, pepper cheese, and smoked bacon and blue cheese dressing on the side. I used the blue for dipping my fries, which were delicious.

I am looking forward to returning to OTB to try some of their different types of burgers, but I don’t think I will ever work up the courage to try a burger with peanut butter.
