Social is the newest restaurant in Bakery Square, technically it’s the newest restaurant in Pittsburgh as it opened this week, and it’s a pretty cool and comfortable place to hang out. Located directly below Google’s immense office space, this casual hang out features an awesome draft list, a solid bar menu -including sandwiches, salads and pizza- and a great environment to ‘Social-ize.’
The atmosphere is modern-minimal, and it is clear that whomever designed this hangout space spent a lot of time deciding what not to put on the walls. The large area features open space, tons of natural light, and a boisterously hip environment.
The burger at Social was not what I expected. Dressed with tons of house sauce (think tangy mayo-based flavors), crisp fresh red onions, a deliberately mild but fulfilling cheddar cheese, and a perfectly toasted freshly baked bun, this burger experience was far from minimalist. Cooked perfectly medium rare, I was extremely satisfied. The french fries were thin, crispy, and perfect for the occasion; although on my next visit, I will be inclined to try the tots.
